Here are 10 intresting facts about the Jackson Hole Ski Resort Tram.

1. The original tram was completed in 1966 and cost $1.6 million. It was partially funded by a government program ($1 million), the rest came from a private investment.

2. The original Jackson Hole Tram took 26 months to build and was powered by 1000hp engines.

3. The original Jackson Hole Tram had an hourly skier capacity of 300, ascended at 8m/s and took 10.5 minutes.

4. The new Jackson Hole Tram has an hourly skier capacity of 650, ascends at 10m/s and takes 9 minutes.

5. The tram smells like…adventure.

6. The tram access over 2,500 acres of in-bounds terrain and over 3,000 acres of backcountry terrain that receives an average of 475″ of snow.

7. The tram rises 4,139 feet and travels over two miles.

8. The tram can operate in winds of up to 60mph.

“The new Teton Lift has been 3 years in the making, and this video was shot in one day this July when JHMR and Doppelmayr crews worked quickly to install the 15 towers of the new high speed quad,” writes Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. “This is the first new lift and terrain expansion for Jackson Hole since 1997 and has over 1,700’ vertical rise, 200 acres of gladed terrain and three new groomed runs.”

UPDATED 4:27 PM MST, TUESDAY 12/22: It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of a skier today at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. At 11:02 A.M. a party reported finding an unconscious female on the left of Sundance Run, underneath the Bridger Gondola. Ski patrol responded and administered life supporting efforts, transporting the women to St. John's Clinic in Teton Village.

She was pronounced dead at 11:38 A.M.

 

Teton County Sheriff's Deputy Todd Stanyon has released the identity of the victim, she is 25-year old Kelsey Hewitt. Hewitt was a Jackson resident who recently moved to the area earlier this month from Portland, Oregon. She was working at Jackson Hole Sports. Kelsey was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and it appears, died after skiing into a tree well.

This is the second death of the season at JHMR. On December 7th snowboarder Callagy Ross, 23, died after losing control on a cat-track.
We will update this story as we know more. Our condolences go out to the victims family and friends, and we wish everyone a safe holiday season.

Πριν αρκετό καιρό, η Λιάνα είχε ανεβάσει στο forum αυτό το άρθρο που εξηγεί ότι υπάρχει κίνδυνος ασφυξίας αν εγκλωβιστείς στην τρύπα που σχηματίζει το δέντρο στο χιόνι.

 

Άσχημη χρονιά για το JH. Δεν φαίνεται να έχουν ευθύνη για κάποια από τις δυο περιπτώσεις, αλλά όπως και να το δει κανείς, 2 νεκροί μέσα σε 15 μέρες...

To σ/κ που πέρασε αναβίωσε ένας παλιός διαγωνισμός που αφορούσε στη συγχρονισμένη κατάβαση σε πούδρα δυο σκιερ, ώστε να γράφουν στο χιόνι 8άρια. Ναι τα γνωστά powder 8's χωρίς τραβέρσα λέω, που βλέπουμε όλοι κ στη Στύγα

Ήμουν μέσα στο μήνα στο Jackson και πραγματικά μου άρεσε πολύ. Η βουνίσια κουλτούρα αυτής της μικρής πόλης μου ταιριάζει περισσότερο από κάθε άλλο χιονοδρομικό που έχω βρεθεί, άσχετα με το πόσο καλό τελικά είναι το riding.

 

Ήθελα να μοιραστώ αυτό το μικρό βίντεο που βρήκα ήδη ανεβασμένο με το safety briefing που κάνουν στο tram, για να πάρετε μια ιδέα του πόσο σοβαρά παίρνουν το βουνό τους.

To aerial tram είναι μια γόνδολα 100 ατόμων που σε ανεβάζει από τη βάση των πιστών ως στην κορυφή στα 3186 μέτρα, καλύπτοντας μια υψομετρική 1261 μέτρα. Κατεβαίνοντας, τα πρώτα 400 μέτρα υψομετρικής είναι μαύρες και double black μαύρες που δεν περνάει χιονοστρωτήρας. Πιο χαμηλά αρχίζουν οι κανονικές πίστες.

 

 

 

Όταν φτάσεις στην κορυφή περνάς το μικρό corbet's cabin και έχεις τις εξής επιλογές: Πολύ μαύρο, μαύρο και μαύρο.

(και μια τραβέρσα λίγο λιγότερο μαύρο)

Είναι αστείο να το λες, αλλά συμβαίνει το εξης:

 

Επειδή γόνδολα έχει κάθε 10 λεπτά, αν φύγεις πολύ γρήγορα ή πολύ αργά, το πάνω μέρος του βουνού θα είναι σχεδόν αποκλειστικά δικό σου μέχρι να φτάσεις τα πρώτα λιφτ.
