Sentinel Rouge Couloir

Tom Grant: We skied the Sentinel Rouge couloir (aka Grand Couloir of the Brenva) off the south side of Mont Blanc this morning. The only previous time it has been skied was in 78 by Valeruz using a heli. I think it has only been climbed once by a Japanese team a year later. After an icy traverse in, the snow was mostly very good corn. No raps, one brief downclimb near the bottom. Very nice natural ski line and the serac above it does not look too bad.
