When you overshoot an exit ramp, you get back on the freeway in the opposite direction and get back on course. Not exactly the same concept applies when you're flying one of the world's largest cargo planes and land at a small industrial airport with spaghetti-sized runways.

A pilot flying a Boeing 747 Dreamlifter would normally carry 400 passengers, but in this case was carrying parts for the equally large Boeing 787. It was supposed to land at McConnell Airport in Wichita, KS, but ended up landing at Jabrara Airport, a tiny commercial dock that doesn't even have a control tower.

The conversation between the pilot and other traffic controllers is priceless. There's no profanity but you can hear the "oh shit" in everyone's tone.

Pilot: "Uhhh, yes sir, we just landed at the other airport..."

Traffic control: "Are you able to make an approach to make a departure from that airport?"

Pilot: "We're working on those details now."

Those details are tricky, because as KWCH in Wichita notes, the 747 needs a 9,199-ft. runway to take off. The runway at Jabrara is only 6,101 feet.

Adding to this massive clusterfuck: Boeing sent a tug to help turn the 747 around, but the tug ended up breaking down, so Boeing sent another one.

This situation is still ongoing and this plane is still stranded. We'll let you know what happens next.

A US pilot has spoken of his shock at having to abort takeoff because his plane crashed into a fish.

 

 

Lieutenant Commander Nick Toth’s Gulfstream IV jet was halfway down the runway when he and his aircrew spotted a large osprey flying in front of them.

The bird vanished underneath the plane and the crew, who work for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, heard a bang.

Yet when they aborted the takeoff and taxied back round to check the runway at the MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, all they could find was a nine inch-long sheepshead fish.

 

Lt Cmdr Toth told the airbase’s internal publication Inside MacDill AFB: “We were nearing the point in the takeoff where we needed to rotate, or raise the nose of the airplane off the ground, when an Osprey with something in its claws flew in front of our aircraft.

“We saw that the Osprey did not gain enough altitude, and that it passed underneath the centerline of the aircraft,” he said.

Wildlife management contractors arrived to investigate what was still being called a “bird strike”, and said they were “surprised” only to find the fish near the end of the runway.

 

A DNA sample was taken from the bloody mark on the plane where it was struck, and experts later confirmed that it was indeed the result of an impact with a fish.

 

“At first, we didn't believe the test results,” exclaimed Toth. “There was no way we hit a fish during takeoff. I mean, how does something like that even happen?”

 

The wildlife experts said it was likely the osprey had been resting on the runway while it ate the fish when it was spooked by the approaching jet. Struggling to get away, it dropped the prey – a natural reaction when challenged by a larger, more aggressive bird.

Χθες το μεσημέρι και εν όψη των εορτασμών για την 25η Μαρτίου,

έγιναν δοκιμαστικές, χαμηλές διελεύσεις μαχητικών αεροσκαφών & ελικοπτέρων,

πάνω από την Αθήνα... και πιο συγκεκριμένα πάνω από τη κεφάλα μου.

Αυτό γίνεται χροοόνια τώρα... και θυμάμαι ακόμα το πόσο τρόμαζα

από το θόρυβο, όταν ήμουν σκατό...

 

Αν και δε τρελαίνομαι πλέων, με αυτές τις πολεμικές μηχανές

σίγουρα παραμένει, για ΄μένα, εντυπωσιακό

και ψιλοθυμάμαι τους τύπους (ο μοντελισμός φταίει...).

 

Έτσι, βρέθηκα να κάνω plane spotting.

Μεταξύ άλλων μπόρεσα να διακρίνω, από αεροσκάφη

F16... μόνο τον ήχο τους άκουγα παρά τα έβλεπα, δυνατός ήχος,

Mirage 2000 οι τρίγωνες δίλιτρες,

F4 (ίσως RF4) πάντα εντυπωσιακός ήχος οι φαντομάδες... τρίζαν τα τζάμια,

και A7 Corsair.

Από τσαμπουκά-κουνουπ διέκρινα Apache (Longbow; ) του Στρατού Ξηράς,

Χιούι (ακόμα πετάνε αυτά;;; εκτός και αν κάνω λάθος),

CH-47 Chinook (νταξ... νταλίκα με έλικες... βαρύ πέταμα),

ΑΒ-212 & SeaHawk (ή AegeanHawk... όπως το βαφτίσαμε) του Π.Ν..

 

Και μερικές φωτογραφίες από τα ελικόπτερα

Τρελαίνομαι για ελικόπτερα)))). Δυστυχώς ένα κωλοπρόβλημα στο δεξί μου μάτι, μου στέρησε την ευκαιρία να γίνω πιλότος ελικοπτέρων σαν τον πατέρα μου(((. Τα Apache είναι όλα τα λεφτά, τα έχω δεί σε άσκηση και νομίζεις ότι ανοίξανε οι πύλες της κολάσεως!!!!

Έβγαλα κι εγώ πάρα πολλές φωτό αλλά δεν τις έχω περάσει. Επειδή το σπίτι μου έχει περιμετρική ορατότητα τα έβλεπα που ερχόντουσαν από Γλυφάδα μεριά και προετοιμαζόμουν και έβγαλα και βίντεο τα μαχητικά!

 

Ούτε εγώ τρελαίνομαι αλλά είναι εντυπωσιακό να βλέπεις F-16 στα 20 μέτρα!!!

 

(Τα ελικόπτερα λόγω θητείας τα έβλεπα κάθε μέρα! )

Και μετά τις δοκιμαστικές, είχαμε και τις επίσημες διελεύσεις, ακόμα πιο εντυπωσιακές.

Αν ήταν χαμηλές...;

Εδώ φτάσαμε να μας χαιρετάνε τα πληρώματα!!!

Tα Σινούκ τρελά εργαλεία , έχω κανά 2 άλματα από αυτά. Πολύ σταθερά, καμια σχέση με τά Χιούι, που τριζανε ολόκληρα:-):-):-)
