Ο νεαρός (σε ηλικία, όχι πείρα) οδηγός αγώνων Toomas "Topi" Heikinen κατά τη διάρκεια ενός άλματος με το αυτοκίνητό του (Ford Fiesta) προσγειώθηκε "πρώιμα" κατά ~4μ. συγκρουόμενος με την άκρη της εξέδρας στην οποία επρόκειτο κανονικά να προσγειωθεί. There are around 400 electric Renault Fluence ZEs on the road now in Israel The BBC's Hugh Sykes tests out a new electric car that allows Israeli drivers to zip all over the country, without worrying about flat batteries. I wish I'd thought of it. It's so obvious. One of the greatest mental barriers to buying an all-electric car is what is known as "range anxiety". When the battery runs down, it can take anything up to eight hours to re-charge it. So you're stuck. The Renault Fluence ZE (zero emissions) has a removable battery which can be swapped for one that has been recharged. For anyone who cooks with gas from a cylinder of butane in the kitchen, it is a familiar principle. When the gas is running down, you do not wait to fill it up - you change it for a full one. An Israeli company called Better Place is doing exactly that with the lithium-ion battery in the Renault Fluence. Their zero emission model is manufactured in alliance with Better Place and Nissan. Switch points There is a network of dozens of "switch stations" around Israel - they look like a car wash but without nozzles or brushes. You drive in, and robotics take over - removing the battery from under the car and replacing it with one that has been charged. The switch lasts about five minutes. The battery weighs 250kg (equivalent to the weight of about three adult men) and it takes up a large space behind the back seat, but there is still plenty of room for luggage as there is no petrol tank. The driving range on a full battery is about 185km (115 miles). This may not sound a lot, but it is quite enough for a small country like Israel, where a drive from the Red Sea to the Lebanese border is about 450km, with switch stations en route. There is a navigation computer called Oscar on board the Fluence - it is programmed with the locations of all the switch points, and it warns drivers when a battery needs replacing. There are also numerous conventional charging "poles"; on average, cars are parked for 22 hours out of 24, so an electric car can be recharged while you work or sleep - without even needing a battery switch. The all-electric Fluence costs about the same as comparable petrol cars, like the Ford Focus. And on the road it feels like an ordinary car with good acceleration, but quieter. When you buy a Fluence, you don't buy the battery - you pay a separate monthly charge for it and for access to the switch stations. This fee is based on how far you drive the car. In Israel, where there are about 400 Renault ZEs on the road, the average battery lease fee so far has been about 63.44€ (67.9€) a month. Foreign interest That did not deter a Tel Aviv lawyer, Eitan Fono. I met him half an hour after he had bought a new Fluence ZE. He was driving into a switch station with a grin on his face. The robotic battery switching stations are dotted all over Israel "What a dream," said Mr Fono, "no more petrol stations!" Better Place is also rolling out its system in Denmark. And, in the Netherlands from early September, some of the taxis from Amsterdam airport to the city centre will be Fluence ZE's with their own switch station. The company's investors include General Electric and HSBC. They have just secured a 40m euro (40.24€m) loan from the European Investment Bank. In an economic climate in which banks are still reluctant to lend to anyone, that is quite an endorsement. That loan helps, but it is relatively small. Since the company was founded five years ago, it has raised about 634.37€m of private capital. But over the past 30 months, its losses have built up to 378.24€m, according to one of its main investors, the Israel Corporation. The Better Place system is hugely expensive - especially the batteries and the switch stations. To make money, the company needs thousands of customers to buy the Fluences. Only a few hundred have been sold. Campaigners for genuinely "green" energy have one major objection to this system - the batteries are mostly charged using electricity from the public grid. But the Roadhawk DC-1 takes the concept of in-car black box to another level. Put simply, the Roadhawk DC-1 might turn out to be the difference between keeping or losing your no claims bonus. It might even make the difference in a serious road-accident related court case. Roadhawk DC-1: What'll it do? In simple terms, the Roadhawk DC-1 records audio and video. Where things get clever is by adding GPS functionality. That enables the speed and location of your car to be logged all along the recorded route, too. Roadhawk has also thrown in a G sensor. The upshot of all this is that you can record and later review journeys in forensic detail. You can even play them back alongside a Google map display of the car's location. Several benefits come out of this. You've a log of exactly what happened in the even of an accident, for starters. You can also use it to plan or share routes, improve your driving and more. What it's not, however, is the optimal device for recording snazzy in-car videos. The video is limited to 640 x 480 pixels at 30 frames per second. Budding movie makers will be better off with something like the GoPro car kit. Roadhawk DC-1: What's it like? Compact and fairly discreet, the ideal mounting position for the Roadhawk DC-1 is probably behind the main rear-view mirror. Power comes from a standard cigarette lighter adapter, but you can also hard wire it to the car's power circuit and cut down on the cables. Not an expensive job and well worth doing, we reckon. The Roadhawk DC-1's safety aspect is covered by automatically recording when the car is started. It records in a constant loop of up to six hours and has an emergency button to protect files from being overwritten. You can also set the Roadhawk DC-1 to protect data when the g-force sensor detects an accident or impact. Obviously, this isn't a feature we were fully able to test. It's all recorded onto a 4GB SDHC memory card which you can remove any time you want to review the data. There's a software app for doing just that, which includes the aforementioned Google maps functionality. It's not a pretty app, but it gets the job done efficiently. You can also view the video in most media players, but you won't have access to the speed and location data. As for the quality of the video, it's not going to worry a GoPro. But it's absolutely fit for purpose thank to a usefully wide 125 degree field of view. Roadhawk DC-1: Verdict Achieving the best setup for the Roadhawk DC-1 does require some wiring. But it works pretty well just sticking it in the your screen and plugging into the lighter socket. Once you're up and running, the auto record and accident features mean you can leave it to do its thing and basically forget about it. That's critical as you can be sure the one time you really needed to have it running, is the one time you'd forgotten to set your camera to record. You can get black box apps for phones, of course. But the Roadhawk DC-1 is a more permanent solution that can be hard wired for constant power supply and do everything without you ever needing to think about it. All told, it's a great way to protect yourself on the road, though it's worth pointing out that it will record your own bad driving just as efficiently as everybody else's. Χρήστος Λάππας 25,397 Report post Posted October 5, 2012 Έχετε δει τουρίστες να οδηγούν στα νησιά μας; Όπου η επιβολή των νόμων επαφίεται στην καλή διάθεση των πολιτών, το αποτέλεσμα είναι αυτό που βλέπουμε γύρω μας, ακόμα και από ανθρώπους που στην χώρα τους συμπεριφέρονται άψογα. Όπου υπάρχει αυστηρή επιβολή εφαρμογής τους, οι πολίτες συμμορφώνονται. Αυτό που μας λείπει στην Ελλάδα είναι ο φόβος των συνεπειών της παραβίασης των κανόνων. 1 Quote Make Parnassos Great Again! panoskap 111 Report post Posted October 8, 2012 Πάντως η επίλυση του προβλήματος με την λεα και τα φανάρια(που μπαίνουν απο δεξιά είναι απλή):βάζεις πολλούς φωτογράφους ανα 1 χμ στην εθνική,και όποιος περνάει από την λεα (και δεν έχει αναγκη) να βγάζει τις πινακίδες του αυτοκινήτου του...Απο κεί στην αστυνομία και απο κεί ένα πρόστιμο 200 ευρώ.Να δουμε μετά ποιος βλάκας θα ξαναπάει απο εκει...Όσο για το φανάρι μπορεί να γίνει κάτι παρόμοιο...Εγώ απο την μεριά μου αν δώ κάποιον να μου έρχεται απο δεξιά στο φανάρι,κολλάω στον μπροστινό μου ουτως ωστε να μην μπεί σφήνα ο αλλος,και μόλις βλέπω ότι πατάει φρένο για να μπει πισω μου,ελλατώνω ταχύτητα και τον πάω παράλληλα μεχρι να τελειώσει η διασταύρωση όπου αυτός σταματάει και τον περνάνε όλοι οι "βλάκες" που περιμένανε στην σειρά,ενώ αυτός μπαίνει τελευταίος..Και στην λεα κατι παρόμοιο κανω..όταν είμαι στην δεξιά λωρίδα στις εισόδους-εξόδους αν πηγαίνει κάποιος παράλληλα μαζι μου και είναι έξοδος ή είσοδος της εθνικής,πάω παράλληλα μ αυτόν και αναγκάζεται να κόψει...Και κάτι τελευταίο και σταματάω γιατί αρκετά σας ζάλισα ..Στην εθνική οδό αθηνών-κορίνθου έχει 3 λωρίδες,μ την λεα 4.άρα λοιπόν αν η λεα ήταν απολύτως ελεύθερη τότε η κυκλοφορία θα πηγαινε μια χαρα..Όταν όμως χρησιμοποιείται η λεα,οι υπολοιποι αναγκάζονται να κόψουν ταχύτητα για να μην τρακάρουν αυτούς που στις εισόδους-εξόδους απλά βγαίνουν απο την λεα και μετά απο λίγο ξαναμπαίνουν..Το αποτέλεσμα?Οταν έχει κίνηση και η λεα χρησιμοποιείται,όλη η κίνηση απλά αυξάνεται,ενω αν δεν χρησιμοποιούσαν την λεα η όλη κίνηση θα είχε μια φυσιολογική ροη και θα φτάναμε με ένα 20 λεπτο καθυστέρηση.Ενω όταν χρησιμοποιείται η λεα,η καθυστέρηση είναι 40 λεπτα+. Όχι απλά μπορεί να δημιουργηθεί ατύχημα με κάποιον που έχει σταματήσει εκεί λόγω βλάβης, αλλά εμποδίζεται η διέλευση οχημάτων έκτακτης ανάγκης, χάνονται πολύτιμα λεπτά στα οποία ασθενοφόρα και πυροσβεστικά περιμένουν κολλημένα στην κίνηση, γιατί κάποιοι συμπολίτες μας δεν θέλουν να περιμένουν την σειρά τους και μπλοκάρουν την ΛΕΑ. ----------- on a different note... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-P3xPlishXw 1 Quote Make Parnassos Great Again! Από την άλλη πλευρά, τα "τζαρτζαρίσματα" στην οδήγηση μπορεί να οδηγήσουν σε ατύχημα από τον επιμένοντα να χωθεί (με μας, με τον πίσω από εμάς κοκ).
