The two were among a group of six athletes freeskiing at the Austrian resort. The other four skied out of the slide. Killed in the avalanche were Ronnie Berlack, 20 (Franconia, NH and Burke Mountain, VT) and Bryce Astle, 19 (Sandy, UT). “Ronnie and Bryce were both outstanding ski racers who were passionate about their sport – both on the race course and skiing the mountain,” said U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association President and CEO Tiger Shaw. “Our hearts go out to the Berlack and Astle families, as well as to their extended sport family. Both of them loved what they did and conveyed that to those around them.” Berlack grew up racing in New Hampshire and had been a student-athlete at Vermont’s Burke Mountain Academy. Olga 6,796 Report post Posted January 12, 2015 (edited) Αερόσακος για χιονοστιβάδες (pics & vids) Σύμφωνα με τους ειδικούς των χιονοστιβάδων, όταν ένα άτομο παγιδευτεί στο χιόνι, η πρώτη προτεραιότητα είναι η αποφυγή του να θαφτεί μέσα στο χιόνι. Ο λόγος είναι, ότι.. αν το άτομο θαφτεί ολόκληρο μετά από ακριβώς 15 λεπτά, η πιθανότητα να επιβιώσει πέφτει σημαντικά. Για να βοηθήσει κάποιος ένα άτομο σε μια τέτοια κατάσταση, θα το καταφέρει μόνο αν δεν είναι θαμμένος ο ίδιος. Εδώ είναι που ο αερόσακος χιονοστιβάδων ABS μπαίνει στο παιχνίδι: με ένα μόνο απλό γρήγορο τράβηγμα της χειρολαβής ενεργοποίησης φουσκώσουν στιγμιαία δύο αερόσακοι με συνολικό όγκο 170 λίτρα. Αυτός ο επιπλέον όγκος είναι σχεδόν σίγουρο ότι θα εμποδίσει το άτομο που το φοράει να θαφτεί στο χιόνι. Ο λόγος βασίζεται σε έναν απλό νόμο της φυσικής: Όταν ένα μεγάλο σώμα βρίσκεται σε κίνηση, κινείται πάντοτε προς την επιφάνεια, πράγμα το οποίο ισχύει και στις χιονοστιβάδες. Χρήστος Λάππας 25,401 Report post Posted January 12, 2015 So us Europeans have been pretty lucky the last few winters (let’s just forget 2010/11); epic snowfall gave us almost guaranteed rooster tails, face shots and ear to ear grins on almost any trip, but best of all fairly good snowpack kept us relatively safe. Just like city bankers leading up to 2008, it’s the bubble we never wanted to burst. Not so this year. Poor early season coverage and steadily warm temperatures essentially mean that, without going into too much scientific nerd-ery, the snowpack is fucked. The conditions in the European Alps right now are very similar to those found at the start of the ‘05/06 season, one that saw one of the worst avalanche seasons recorded and caused 57 deaths in France alone. Captain Powder 2,135 Report post Posted January 13, 2015 Χθες το βραδυ παρηγγειλα, το Float 22 της BCA , απο το γνωστο γερμανο. 494 € με τη μπουκαλα . Περυσι ειχα παρει το 32 και ειπα να φροντισω και τη συζυγο τωρα, που να ψαχνεις για καινουργια τετοιες εποχες. Μου αρεσει που μπορω και γεμιζω τη μπουκαλα μονος μου χωρις να χρειαζεται να στελνω και να μου γεμιζουν στο εξωτερικο. (Υπενθιμιζω πως κανονικα πρεπει να "σκαμε" το σακο μια φορα το χρονο) Το συστημα της ABS ειναι πια απαρχαιωμενο, δε το συνιστω για αγορα τωρα. Οποιος το εχει ηδη, δεν εχει προβλημα. Ειναι αξιοπιστο και δοκιμασμενο, αλλα εχει καποια στοιχεια δειχνουν την ηλικια του. Περιπλοκη διαταξη "πυροδοτησης" (κυριολεκτικα με καψουλι, που θελει αντικατασταση καθε φορα) και μπουκαλα που γεμιζει μονο ο κατασκευαστης, η εξουσιοδοτημενο καταστημα. Το Alpride της Scott με ενα κοινο φυσσιγγιο CO2 και ενα φυσιγγιο argon (διαθεσιμα στο εμποριο) και μηχανικη πυροδοτηση φαινεται πολυ καλη προταση , αλλα δεν ειναι ακομα δοκιμασμενο στη πραξη. Το Jeforce της Black Diamond με το ηλεκτρικο μοτερακι δυστυχως ειναι ακομη ακριβο και δυσευρετο. Το κοινο μειονεκτημα ολων των συστηματων ειναι το βαρος και δυστυχως δεν προβλεπεται να πεσει θεαματικα, αφου το σακκιδιο το ιδιο, περα απο το εξτρα βαρος του αεροσακου και του μηχανισμου πυροδοτησης, πρεπει να ειναι ιδιεταιρα στιβαρο, ωστε να μη ξηλωθει απο το χρηστη απο τις δυναμεις που ασκουνται μεσα τη χιονοστιβαδα. Στο σκι δε το νιωθεις , αλλα στον ανηφορο ...
